Prostate Cancer
Prostate Cancer Overview
Prostate cancer starts in the glandular tissue of the prostate gland. The prostate is a small gland located below the bladder and in front of the rectum in men. As part of the male reproductive system, the prostate makes a fluid which carries the sperm.
Cancer of the prostate is usually slow-growing. It may take years for signs and symptoms of the disease to develop. Even so, prostate cancer has one of the highest cancer survival rates.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canadian men. If you are a man over the age of 50, consider talking to your health care professional about your risk for developing prostate cancer and the benefits and risks of early diagnostic testing for prostate cancer.
