Postpartum Support

A friendly phone call

When you get home from the hospital, a public health nurse will call you to answer any questions or concerns you have about yourself and your baby.  We can help answer questions about:

  • breastfeeding or formula feeding.

  • whether your baby has enough wet diapers.

  • any health concerns you have about yourself.

  • adjusting to your new role as a parent.

  • the services or activities in your community such as Healthy Baby Centres.

A follow-up home visit

During the phone call you will be offered a home visit from your area public health nurse.  This is a chance to have your baby weighed and to talk about:

  • any concerns for your health or your baby’s.

  • breastfeeding, formula feeding and starting solids.

  • what to expect as your baby grows older.

  • car seat and home safety.

  • your older children and their adjustment to the new baby.

If more visits would benefit you, your public health nurse can refer you for Home Visiting for young families.
