The Bike/Walk to Work Challenge Expanded to Saugeen Shores, Dignitaries to Help Launch New Location
WHO: Representatives from the Town on Saugeen Shores Shores, Public Health, Grey Bruce Partners in Health, and Community Living Owen Sound and District.
WHAT: Launch of newest location in the growing Bike/Walk Challenge. Dignitaries are invited. Food and refreshments will be served.
WHERE: Saugeen Municipal Offices, 600 Tomlinson Dr., Port Elgin
WHEN: 10 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2005
WHY: Individuals and the community benefit when residents use their own energy to get to work. By leaving the car at home, participants can increase their physical activity level, reduce vehicle emissions, which can improve air quality, and save on the costs of operating a car.
To qualify for prizes, participants are encouraged to walk or bike to work or school, at least one way. They complete a ballot form and deposit it at any of the following locations: Martin’s Bicycle Shop, Wardrop Pharmasave, Chamber of Commerce, Ralph’s Hi-Way Shopette and Your Workplace.
The challenge runs from May 16 - June 24, 2005 with participants getting a chance to win prizes every time they bike or walk to work.
Win Great Prizes! 1st - $1000.00 bike from Jolley’s Alternative Wheels 2nd - Teeth whitening kit from Georgian Family Dentistry 3rd - Running shoes and pedometer from Sportchek and Public Health 4th - Bicycle helmet from Martin’s Bicycle Shop 5th - Swimming pass from Saugeen Shores Recreation Department
Weekly PrizesTwo prizes will be drawn weekly, and these include: · Bike bells · Bike mirrors
Free Bicycle Safety Clinics (Outside Martin’s Bicycle Shop in Southampton)
· Monday, May 16, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. · Sunday, May 22, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
