News Release For Immediate Release October 7, 2003
New Public Health Dentist
The Public Health Unit is pleased to welcome a new public health dentist, Dr. Mike Moseley. Dr. Moseley recently returned to Ontario from northern British Columbia where he practiced both public health dentistry and clinical dentistry. After graduating from dentistry at the University of Toronto, Dr. Moseley studied community dentistry. Dr. Moseley takes over from Dr. Laurie Sullivan, who continued to work for the Public Health Unit for 3 ½ years after his retirement.
Dr. Moseley’s focus of interest in Grey and Bruce Counties is twofold. “I’m particularly interested in getting the dental hygiene message out to pregnant mothers. They need to know what to do and what not to do with their baby’s teeth. I want to dispel myths and give them good information,” says Dr. Moseley. At the other end of the spectrum, Dr. Moseley hopes to focus on care of the elderly population. Says Moseley, “Elderly people on fixed incomes, without dental plans, are falling through the cracks when it comes to dental care. Dental disease is an infection. Not only can it be spread to others, it can lead to other illnesses, such as heart disease. If your mouth is tuned up, you’ve got a great start on good general health.” -30-
