Growing Older Bolder… steps for aging with confidence and control
KINCARDINE: Two days of
activities have been organized for adults 50 years and older and for those
who care for older relatives. Ten local agencies worked together to offer a
variety of interactive exhibits and informative workshops. The “GROWING
OLDER BOLDER …steps for aging with confidence” events are coordinated by
the Falls Prevention Program of the Public Health Unit, and sponsored
by Bruce Power. DAY ONE: The day starts out with workshops and continues into the evening with dinner, speakers and live theatre.
Date: May 11, 2005 Time: 12:30 to 8:30 p.m. Place: Kincardine Royal Canadian Legion Branch 183, 219 Lambton St.
Workshops: · Blood Pressure checks · Nutrition and Osteoporosis · Active Living Local Programs, such as Tai Chi and Walking Programs · Scams (O.P.P. Presentation) · Medication Interactions · Care for the Caregiver
Dinner: A light dinner will be served. Dinner costs $5.00, payable at the door, and requires pre-registration by May 9, 2005.
Speaker: Following dinner, special guest speaker Dr. John Van Dorp will speak about aging with confidence and control. Dr. Van Dorp is physician consultant for the Grey Bruce Community Coalition for the Prevention of Falls in Older Adults.
Theatre: The evening’s theatre presentation, a performance by Stay on Your Feet volunteers, is called “Bruno and Alice: A Love Story”.
DAY TWO:
Day Two is a follow-up day with a morning workshop geared toward seniors, caregivers and health care workers. All are welcome.
Date: May 25, 2005 Time: 9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Place: Kincardine Royal Canadian Legion Branch 183, 219 Lambton St.
Workshop: The morning workshop, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, is called “Medications, Alcohol and Health: Give Me the Information – I’ll Decide”.
Demonstrations: At 1:30 p.m., participants can visit exercise demonstrations and sign up for local classes. All registrants who attend eight classes will attend a prize.
To register for either or both days, call Public Health at 881-1920 .
Participants are welcome to attend all sessions, or may choose to attend any part(s) of the day(s) they are interested in. Transportation may be available, if necessary, by calling 396-9555 before May 1.
