News Release For Immediate Release December 2, 2005
Numbers Double at Community Flu Clinics
Community flu immunization clinics held by the Grey Bruce Health Unit vaccinated thirty-eight hundred (3,800) people this year. That compares to 1,897 who attended clinics in 2004. Nine clinics were held throughout area secondary schools, the Chesley Community Centre, and Owen Sound Legion.
Karen Sweiger, Manager of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases Program, says there is no shortage of influenza vaccine. Almost 63,000 doses of influenza vaccine were distributed to physician offices, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and nursing agencies across Grey-Bruce.
It is not too late to receive your flu shot. They are available through doctors’ offices, local pharmacies, and Grey Bruce Health Unit clinics. It is extremely important for health care workers, key decision makers, young children, and seniors to be protected against influenza.
Immunization clinics are held every Tuesday at the Grey Bruce Health Unit in Owen Sound. Clinics are also held in Walkerton on the first and third Wednesday of each month and the second Wednesday of each month at the Plex in Port Elgin. Please call to book an appointment at 376-9420 or 881-1920.
