Scarlet Fever
The Grey Bruce Health Unit is aware of several Owen Sound area children diagnosed with scarlet fever. Scarlet fever is a form of group A streptococcal bacteria infection characterized by a skin rash. Secondary complications can lead to on going health problems and rarely death.
Notices, with the attached Fact Sheet, have been sent home from schools in the city asking parents to observe children for signs and symptoms of the disease. Children exhibiting any signs of scarlet fever should be seen by a physician or healthcare provider.
