World AIDS Day events in Owen Sound
OWEN SOUND – The public are invited to two local events to recognize World AIDS Day, December 1, 2007.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit will host a videoconference with Stephen Lewis on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, from 7:30am to 8:30am in the 3rd Floor Boardroom, 920 First Ave. West, Owen Sound. Stephen Lewis is speaking from Markham Stouffville Hospital. This live, inter-active videoconference will be broadcast via the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN). The Stephen Lewis Foundation funds initiatives in Africa to provide care at the community level to women, orphans, grandmothers and associations of people living with HIV/AIDS. Lewis will provide an epidemic update and information about the Give a Day AIDS response.
A Closer Walk, the first film to depict humankind's confrontation with the global AIDS epidemic will be shown Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, 824 First Ave. West. Owen Sound. Doors open at 6:30pm, with film showing at 7:00pm followed by a discussion. A Closer Walk, by director and producer Robert Bilheimer, is one of the most powerful and informative documentaries on the Global AIDS crisis.
There is no admission fee for these events.
