News Release For Immediate Release April 14, 2008
Walking After Midnight
Parents of teens and pre-teens will want to see Walking After Midnight: The Story of Bob presented by Katy Hutchison, sponsored by the Grey Bruce Health Unit in partnership with the Grey Bruce Parent Norms Committee and FOCUS.
Walking After Midnight describes how alcohol and drug use, peer pressure and misguided choices in an unchaperoned setting caused the tragic death of Katy Hutchison’s husband Bob. Throughout her presentation, Katy shares the impact of this traumatic event. Her presentation, intended for both young people and their parents, describes the risks arising from using alcohol and other drugs in unsupervised settings. Katy provides parents with tips they can use to help their teens make healthier choices.
Katy Hutchison will be at the Hanover Town Hall on April 22, 2008 at 7:30 p.m., and at the Bruce Power Visitor’s Centre on April 23, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.
Alcohol continues to be the most widely used drug among teens in Grey Bruce and across Ontario, with 61% of Ontario students from grades 7 to 12 reporting alcohol use in the past year. As well, binge drinking (consuming at least 5 drinks on one occasion) remains high, with 26% of Ontario students reporting bingeing in the past year.
