Local News Feature on Childhood Obesity Garners National Award
The Grey Bruce Health Unit congratulates CKNX radio in Wingham and local reporter Kirk Scott for a national award winning news feature on childhood obesity.
The feature, examining the issue of childhood obesity in Grey Bruce, won the Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) Dave Rogers Award for Best Short Feature in a Small Market. The award was presented in Toronto on the weekend.
Kirk Scott produced the feature to report on the October 27, 2008 release of the School Health Action, Planning and Evaluation System (SHAPES) research that shows improving the health of children in Grey Bruce requires immediate action.
“Congratulations to reporter Kirk Scott and CKNX Radio for their award winning reporting on a serious health issue for our area.” says Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hazel Lynn. “Childhood obesity is a priority for this Health Unit and we appreciate the support and recognition their news coverage has provided for this problem.”
