News Release For Immediate Release October 8, 2009
DO NOT USE WATER ADVISORY for residents who use water directly from Irish Lake LIFTED.
The Do Not Use Water Advisory for the residents near and around Irish Lake in the Municipalities of Grey Highlands and West Grey issued on September 2, 2009, has been lifted. This advisory affected those residents who use the lake as their direct drinking water source. The advisory was in response to the presence of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) within the lake. Cyanobacteria may contain algae species with the potential to produce toxins that may be harmful to human health and to the health of animals.
The Ministry of the Environment has continued to test the lake water since early September. The latest test results show that the toxin levels have dropped to an acceptable level.
