Bridging the Generation Gap (You and your aging parents) - Workshop

“As the person you care for ages, you realize that preserving the dignity and respect they deserve is just as important as the love you naturally feel. Where to turn, where to begin? That’s our starting point.” Iris Consulting for Seniors

Are you caring for an aging parent or relative? Are you feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of the “seniors’ system”? If so, this workshop is for you!

Bridging the Generation Gap (You and your aging parents) Workshop is presented by the Grey Bruce Health Unit, the Grey Bruce Falls Prevention and Intervention Program and Iris Consulting for Seniors.

This is an interactive workshop for adult children who are presently caring for their elderly parents, may become caregivers to their elderly parents or will be cared for themselves in the future.

The workshop will be lead by presenters Jill O’Donnell, RN, PHN, BA and Gail Houston, RN, BA, MN of Iris Consulting for Seniors. Jill O’Donnell is the co-author of The Canadian Retirement Guide and is well known as a pioneer in the field of gerontology and as an expert on aging issues. She has worked extensively in community and institutional settings and has knowledge of both private and public sector resources. Her specific interest is in the treatment and housing of frail elders and those suffering from a cognitive impairment. She has been a presenter at regional and international conferences and featured in national newspapers, magazines, local radio and national TV.

This workshop will help participants:

-          Understand the aging process

-          Learn how to adapt to change

-          Understand health and care needs

Participants will also have the opportunity to prepare specific questions and concerns in advance so that the presenters can answer them during the day.

The cost of the workshop is $15.00. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Space is limited! Participants must pre-register by contacting the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
