Grey Bruce Youth Celebrate International Youth Day 2010
International Youth Day 2010 events and celebrations take place across Grey Bruce.
Community for Youth Coalition (C4YC) celebrates International Youth Day, Thursday, August 12, with activities to promote the youth of the Meaford and Blue Mountains area! Events take place at the Centre for Student Leadership, 788277 Grey Road 13, Clarksburg, from 4:00 to 11:00 p.m. The celebration features a walk to the Clendenan Dam, water games, BBQ supper, cake, campfire and movie as well as ongoing activities including volleyball, bocce ball, cards, beading, hacky sack, music and Wii games.
Kincardine Youth Waves celebrate Kincardine youth with a variety of events at Station Beach, 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 14. Fun activities include water bulls-eye, water balloon throw, t-shirt contest, flipper race, sandcastle competition and eating competition along with free food and prizes.
Saugeen Youth Coalition celebrates with several events. On Thursday, August 12, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., there is a National Youth Day Beach Volleyball Tournament at Port Elgin Main Beach with food and prizes for participants.
There is also a cooking event that night for students going off to university who may be cooking for themselves for the first time. The students do a tour of the grocery store and get to cook and taste an item to gain some experience in a kitchen. This event runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the meeting room at Legault's Your Independent Grocer, 1244 Highway 21, Port Elgin.
There is no admission to any of the above events.
Saugeen Youth Coalition also presents Rock the Shore, Saturday, August 14, at the Old Town Hall, 201 High Street, Southampton. Doors open 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. The event features local bands Beyond Purgatory, Emulsiphier and Midtown Cross.
International Youth Day recognizes the capability of youth, celebrates their achievements, and supports engaging youth in decision-making opportunities within their communities. C4YC, Kincardine Youth Wave and Saugeen Youth Coalition are three groups made up of local youth and community members who having been working together to promote the healthy development of youth in their community.
