CAW receives EatSmart! Award of Excellence
The Cafeteria at the Canadian Auto Workers Family Education Centre is helping to lead the way to healthier eating in Grey Bruce. Their efforts will be recognized with the presentation of the provincial EatSmart! Award of Excellence, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 10, at the CAW Family Education Centre, R.R. #1, CAW Road/Bruce County Rd 25, Port Elgin.
The award acknowledges workplace cafeterias demonstrating excellence in the areas of nutrition, food safety and a smoke-free environment. Executive Chef, Paul Johnston, and Executive Director, Dean Fowler, are justifiably thrilled to see the Centre receive this special recognition, which comes as the result of the hard work of the Centre’s Joint Health and Safety Committee. Through their efforts, the workplace cafeteria offers lower fat, lower salt and higher fibre food choices along with the chef’s personal commitment to use local foods whenever possible. The staff and visitors of the CAW Family Education Centre will reap the rewards of tasty and healthy food choices.
“Healthy eating is the first line of defense against chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers. We are pleased to see CAW make this commitment to creating a healthier eating environment for their employees and guests.” says Public Health Dietitian, Kathryn Forsyth. “The goal of a healthy community is reached when healthy choices are the easiest.”
