News Release For Immediate Release September 8, 2010
Local Students Spread the Word about Alcohol and Pregnancy Winners in a media contest to increase awareness of the problems associated with alcohol use during pregnancy will be displayed at the Owen Sound Farmers Market on Thursday, September 9th to mark Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day or FASDay 2010. Area high school students, from both the Bluewater District School Board and the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board, designed posters and video clips to help spread the message that alcohol and pregnancy don’t mix. The contest was organized by Grey Bruce FASD Community Mobilization Committee and funded by the Grey Bruce FOCUS Project.
Prizes were awarded in June to the following students for their submissions. In the Poster Division: Annette Dawn, Chesley District High School, Grand Prize Sonu Solanki, John Diefenbaker Secondary School, 1st Prize In the Public Service Announcement Division (30 second video clips): Amy Smart, Saugeen District Secondary School, Grand Prize for an Individual Submission Mrs. Bell’s Grade 11 Living and Working with Children Class, Grade 11, OSCVI, Grand Prize for a Class Submission In the Grade 10 Public Service Announcement Division: Taylor MacDonald, Saugeen District Secondary School, 1st Prize Sabreea Ahmed, Saugeen District Secondary School, 2nd Prize Graham Cook, Saugeen District Secondary School, 3rd Prize In the Grade 11 Public Service Announcement Division: Tessa DeBoer, St. Mary’s High School, 1st Prize Lucas Jones, Saugeen District Secondary School, 2nd Prize In the Grade 12 Public Service Announcement Division: Tyler O’Reilly, St. Mary’s High School, 1st Prize
Three additional prizes were awarded to students at St. Mary’s High School.
