Eat and Learn Gets $106,500 in Provincial Funding

WIARTON – Breakfast programs feeding over three thousand students in 53 schools across Grey and Bruce received funding with a cheque presentation today for $106,500 from the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.  The money will support food purchases for a half million meals served over the school year through the Grey Bruce Eat and Learn program.  The provincial ministry funding represents about 25 per cent of the cost of the program and is specifically for food purchase. Eighty-five cents a day feeds a child breakfast.  Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound M.P. Larry Miller helped serve breakfast to Wiarton Public School students and learned about Student Nourishment Programs across Grey and Bruce.

The success of the program relies on volunteers to prepare and serve as well as support from parents, businesses and local service clubs.
