Board of Health Appointment

Owen Sound – The Grey Bruce Health unit is seeking candidates from Grey and Bruce to fill an upcoming vacancy as the provincial representative on the Board of Health.  This is a three-year appointment beginning January 2006, with a possible renewal, replacing a current member whose term is ending.

Interested individuals should know about the purpose, policies and programs of the health unit.  The board’s primary functions include establishing general policies and procedures governing operations of the health unit to ensure delivery of the appropriate programs to meet the needs of the community and that the health unit is well managed.

Interested individuals must apply through the Ontario Government’s Public Appointments Secretariat (PAS) web site www.pas.gov.on.ca .

Guidelines for Board of Health Members

A member of a board of health should:

·         have a commitment to and an understanding of the purpose, policies and programs of the health unit;

·         represent the health unit in the community;

·         acquire a clear understanding of the financial position of the health unit and ensure that the finances are adequate and responsibly spent;

·         serve in a volunteer capacity without regard for remuneration or profit;

·         be able to work and participate within a group, as a team;

·         be supportive of the organization and its management;

·         attend board meetings and actively participate including service on committees and as officers;

·         know and maintain the lines of communication between the board and staff;

·         be responsible for continuing self-education and growth.
