News Release For Immediate Release August 9, 2007
Point Clark, Lurgan Beach and Bruce Beach (Concession 6), Huron- Kinloss, Safe for Bathing
All Huron-Kinloss beach water sampling results have been returned with acceptable bacterial levels within the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standards. These beaches are now safe for swimming. Public Health would like to caution the public to avoid bathing if dense, rotting, algae-like substance reappears near shore.
The Township of Huron-Kinloss, through laboratory testing, has confirmed that the dense rotting matter is mainly composed of Rhizoclonium algae. This type of algae is common throughout the Great Lakes and there are no known health risks.
“I thank the residents and visitors of Huron-Kinloss for their understanding and co-operation during the beach posting from July 25, 2007 to August 9, 2007.” says Lou D’Alessandro, Safe Water Manager at the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
