Love Your Teeth Day
Miss McCulloch’s Grade 8 class at Hepworth Central School learned the importance of dental hygiene during Love Your Teeth Day, February 14, 2007. In a partnership with Energizer Canada, the Dental Team from the Grey Bruce Health Unit launched the Love Your Teeth Day campaign to the over 1,900 Grade 8 students throughout Grey and Bruce. Students receive a toothbrush and bookmark. Teachers receive materials to present lessons on various aspects of oral care.
These students are preparing for secondary school and that includes new friends, new freedom and new responsibilities. The bookmark reminds students they are responsible for their own oral care. It highlights the five main areas of oral health contributing to a healthy smile: good brushing habits, flossing, eating healthy foods and avoiding tobacco.
Optimal oral health is an integral part of total health. Oral disease is one of the most prevalent and one of the most preventable health problems today. Being informed of the cause of dental disease, practicing proper methods of oral hygiene and awareness of the need for regular dental care are key to prevention of oral disease. -30-
