World Breastfeeding Week - Mother Support: Going for the Gold

As the world anticipates the Summer Olympics in China, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) celebrates World Breastfeeding Week August 1 - 7, with the theme Mother Support: Going for the Gold. The Grey Bruce Community Breastfeeding Network joins with WABA in calling for increased support for mothers in achieving the gold standard of infant feeding; that is breastfeeding exclusively for the first six months and to continue breastfeeding together with feeding other appropriate complementary foods for up to two years and beyond.

The Grey Bruce Community Breastfeeding Network is asking for the help of local families in going for the gold! Medals acknowledge gatherings of breastfeeding mothers during World Breastfeeding Week. The more moms and babies in attendance, the greater the chance at a gold, silver or bronze medal. Breastfeeding mothers will gather in 120 countries to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.

Locally, the Grey Bruce Community Breastfeeding Network invites families to a gathering with light refreshments, Thursday, August 7, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the gazebo at Kelso Beach, Owen Sound. Join us to share your breastfeeding stories, discuss breast health and breastfeeding issues. Children can enjoy face painting. The event is free of charge. Bring your family for some fun, a chance to win a door prize and to help us in Going for the gold!
