Grey Bruce Health Unit Receives Canadian Urban Institute Award
The new Grey Bruce Health Unit building and architects Salter-Pilon have been acknowledged by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI). The 2009 CUI Brownie Awards recognizes Brownfield Projects that are "Going for Gold" across Canada. The Grey Bruce Health Unit won in Category 4 - Excellence in Project Development: Building Scale
Winners in six categories were announced at a gala dinner in Vancouver, October 26, at the annual Canadian Brownfields conference.
“The Health Unit Board and the City of Owen Sound wanted this project to set the new standard for local sustainable development and act as a catalyst for future development along the waterfront, which would otherwise have remained undeveloped for years to come.” according to the CUI description of the award winner. “It is seen as the first of many potential future developments along the harbour, demonstrating that redevelopment of these lands is possible.”
"Like gold medal-winning performances, brownfield developments are the result of years of dedication and hard work. And like Canadian athletes who we know will bring home gold this winter, brownfield projects create a legacy for future generations.” said Dino Chiesa, Chairman of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, in announcing the award winners.
The CUI Brownie Awards are sponsored by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and are awarded annually to projects and programs that reflect leadership and innovation in brownfield redevelopment. -30- For more information: Drew Ferguson Public/Media Relations Coordinator Grey Bruce Health Unit 519-376-9420 or 1-800-263-3456 ext. 1269
