Winners Announced - Guys Caring for Kids Photo Contest

The 3^rd Annual Guys Caring for Kids Photo Contest concluded June 29^th – just after Father’s Day. The Photo Contest challenged people of all ages to capture the visual stories of men in caring relationships with children. Although men are getting much more involved in the lives of children as fathers, uncles, grandfathers, friends, coaches and neighbours, the majority of images of adults engaging with children still feature women. Several organizations in Grey and Bruce have come together to raise the profile, celebrate and further encourage men’s roles in children’s lives.

The Top Three submissions from 2012 are as follows:

1. Kathie Slowiak (Meaford) – “Beautiful Embrace”

2. Melissa Couch (Chatsworth) – “Bubble Trouble”

3. Lori Curry (Markdale) – “That’s Not Santa … That’s Papa”

Honourable Mentions include:

• Essie King – “Best Buds”

• Lori Curry – “Daddy is the Best Story Teller”

• Devon Bachner – “I Smell so Good”

• Jodie Moran – “Growing for My Future”

• Elizabeth Willmott – “Swim Partners”

• Lindsey Lyons – “Giggles with Dad”

• Amanda McManaman – “Michael’s Swimming Lesson”

• Brenda Smith – “Spring Planting”

A special thank-you to the following groups for their generous prize donations: Owen Sound and Area Family YMCA, Story Book Park, Home Depot, Toronto Blue Jays, Foto Art and The Rocking Horse. Additionally, a special thanks to Grey County Social Services, Bruce County Social Services, the South East Grey Community Health Centre and the Grey Bruce Health Unit for sponsoring this contest.
