Health Professionals Helping Smokers Quit

Studies have shown that smokers are receptive to advice from a health professional on quitting smoking. Advice from a health professional can be the motivation a person needs to quit smoking. The following sections are PDF files designed to be printed out and kept nearby for reference.

Minimal Intervention Guidelines (1 page)
The Four D’s – used by anyone in a clinical setting to encourage all smokers to quit. Takes very little time and when set into practice can increase quit rates.

Telephone Counselling Reference Sheet (3 pages)
For those in a non-clinical setting who may be receiving calls from smokers, or their family, looking for more information.

Helping Smokers Quit: Skills for Future Facilitators (100 pages)
The complete guide for those wanting to provide smoking cessation for co-workers, clients, or customers. This guide was designed to be used by participants in the Helping Smokers Quit: Skills for Future Facilitators workshop presented by Grey Bruce Health Unit and the Program Training and Consultation Centre (PTCC). It consists of two sections; the first section contains background information for facilitators, the second section is a comprehensive plan for running smoking cessation group programs.
