Re:  Smoke-Free By-Law in Grey County

Attention Employers, Business Owners and Proprietors:

On September 3, 2002, the Smoke-Free By-Law came into effect in Grey County. This by-law prohibits smoking in public places and workplaces, with minor exemptions, in order to promote a healthy environment by offering protection from the health hazards of second-hand smoke.

It will take planning, communication and commitment from everyone to ensure a successful transition to smoke-free public places and workplaces.  To assist you in this process, we are providing this information kit for you and your employees.  It will be helpful in your educational activities to implement and promote compliance with the bylaw at your place of business.  Also, Tobacco Enforcement Officers and a 24-hour help line are available from the Grey Bruce Health Unit to help ensure compliance with the by-law.

Please find enclosed the following resources:

You may obtain additional information and resources by calling

376-9420 or 1-800-263-3456.

Patiently, working together we can ensure a smooth implementation of the smoke-free by-law.  We understand that you may have questions or need assistance during this transition time.  The Grey Bruce Health Unit staff are ready to work with you, so donít hesitate to call.

Thank you for your cooperation in doing your part to protect the health of residents, employees and visitors by creating smoke-free places.
