Grey and Bruce County Smoke-free BylawsOn September 3, 2002 indoor workplaces and indoor public places in Grey and Bruce became smoke-free, with some minor exemptions. The new bylaws for both counties prohibit smoking in indoor public places such as restaurants, bars, bingo and billiard halls, bowling alleys and taxis. Indoor workplaces including staff rooms, eating areas, smoking rooms and vehicles owned and leased by employers are also smoke-free. Employers, business owners and managers have a role to play under the smoke-free bylaws. The responsibilities of employers and business owners under the new bylaw are detailed in the information kits link here. Grey County Bruce County Information kits and the required No Smoking signs are available at most municipal offices and the Owen Sound & District Chamber of Commerce. The Grey Bruce Health Unit can provide more detailed assistance and resources for implementing the bylaw in your establishment or workplace. For information about the bylaw, contact the Health Unit at (519) 376-9420 or 1-800-263-3456. Breathe easy….enjoy Grey and Bruce Counties’ smoke-free places.
