If you ask any former smoker, they can tell you
the reason why they quit. You will find lots of different answers, and
no-one’s reason will be the same as yours but here are some of the common
reasons why smokers quit smoking.
Do the Math – Quitting to Save Money
Health Benefits of Quitting Everyone knows of at least one health problem caused by smoking, but what about the Health Benefits of Quitting. Here are just a few:
For Your KidsYou’d do anything for them (and sometimes you think you do do everything for them), so consider how your smoking is affecting them.
· If you quit smoking – your child will have fewer problems with colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections, asthma, and allergies. Plus they won’t go to school smelling like smoke. · Smoking costs money – that’s money you could be saving for lots of things, including family vacations, or university educations. · Children of parents who smoke are twice as likely to smoke as children of non-smokers when they grow up. Modelling healthy behaviour for your children, like quitting, will help them to make healthy choices. · Smoking increases you chances of developing cancer or heart disease possibly leading to disability or death early in life. This means running the risk of not being around for your kids when they graduate high school, get married, or have children of their own.
How about you? …
What are your personal reasons for quitting? Take the time to write them down. Look at the cons of smoking and the pros of quitting. Compare these against your reasons for continuing to smoke, i.e. cons of quitting and pros of smoking. When the reasons to quit outweigh the reasons to continue smoking – you know you are ready to try quitting!
