Smoke-Free Ontario Legislation (May 31, 2006)

The Smoke-Free Ontario Act:

•  protects workers and the public from the harmful effects of tobacco by banning smoking in all enclosed public places and enclosed workplaces;

•  toughens laws on tobacco sales to minors; and

•  restricts the promotion of tobacco products in retail outlets.  A complete ban on the display of tobacco products will come into force on May 31, 2008.

Local bylaws that are more stringent than the Smoke-Free Ontario Act will take precedent.  For more information, see the Smoke-Free Ontario Act.
