The goal of the Safe Water Program is to reduce the incidence of water-borne illness in the community. We believe that safe drinking water is a fundamental component of a healthy community and that our citizens have a right to a safe and reliable supply of drinking water.
Public Health is mandated to reduce the incidence of water-borne illnesses by:
Taking appropriate action to protect public health when adverse test results are received from community drinking water systems
Providing information to owners of private water systems
a) interpretation of their water test results
b) potential health effects of using contaminated water
c) the maximum acceptable concentrations of various health–related parameters found in drinking water
In addition, the health unit staff members work towards
the reduction of communicable disease transmission from waters used for bathing at public pools, spas, hot tubs and beaches.
