Personal Protective Equipment Video Release
Owen Sound– The release of a new video by the Grey Bruce Health Unit speaks to recommendations contained in the Justice Archie Campbell final report on Toronto’s 2003 SARS outbreak. Personal Protective Equipment is a four-minute video demonstrating the proper procedure for individuals safely donning and removing protective gown, mask, eyewear and gloves. The video illustrates best practice use of personal protective equipment for all health care professionals. The demonstration is based on the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care document Donning and Removal of Personal Protective Equipment.
Public Health Nurse Carrie-Lynn Haines was working in Toronto’s Mt. Sinai Hospital at the time of the SARS outbreak and saw first-hand the importance of protecting health care workers and patients. “My lived experience has made me passionate about infection prevention and control and what it means to keeping everyone safe.” Haines provided the demonstrations of the techniques used in the video.
Richard Thomas Communications of Owen Sound produced the Personal Protective Equipment video. Its distribution will include all hospitals, nursing homes and the two jails in Grey Bruce. A media launch today for this new video included a presentation of copies to infection control representatives from area nursing homes and hospitals. It will also be available through the Health Unit’s website and for sale in a DVD format. A French language translation will follow shortly. This new video follows on the success of the Health Unit’s Hand Washing – Hand Sanitizing production distributed across North America and is the number one video of its kind in web searches.
