Clarification Regarding Purchase of Equipment or Supplies

The Grey Bruce Health Unit has received reports of a telephone solicitation where the caller states the Health Unit requires a business to have or obtain specific equipment. In recent cases hair salons, spas or esthetic facilities are told they require “safety supplies” or “first aid kits”.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit would like to clarify the following. The Medical Officer of Health will notify business operators directly affected whenever specific equipment or products are required for the purpose of preventing disease or injury or reducing risk. Such notification will only be made through Public Health staff and not by means of a third party. If, at anytime, a company or sales person suggests that the Health Unit requires the installation or purchase of specific items please ask the salesperson for their name and phone number and contact the Health Unit for verification.
