News Release For Immediate Release March 23, 2007 Team Completes Virtual Hike of the Bruce Trail
Medical Officer of Health Dr Hazel Lynn today recognized Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Member of Parliament Larry Miller for his part in completing a virtual hike of the Bruce Trail. Mr. Miller was part of the ‘Hazelnuts’ team including, Dr. Lynn, Southgate mayor Don Lewis and Kincardine mayor Larry Kraemer. Together they completed the Stepping out on the Bruce Trail challenge, hiking the equivalent of the Bruce Trail from Queenston to Tobermory. Mr. Miller completed 283 kilometers toward the team total of 840 kilometers.
Participants in the challenge record daily steps on a pedometer. Special software converts that to the equivalent distance on the trail as well as providing visual and written descriptions of sights along the route. The software and a complimentary pedometer-lending program are available at all local libraries. There are currently 480 four-member teams registered for the challenge across Grey Bruce with 1,920 participants.
