Eat Smart! Awards of Excellence

Ten Grey Bruce restaurants received the Ontario Eat Smart! Award of Excellence at a presentation today at the Grey Bruce Health Unit. The award recognizes exceptional standards in nutrition, food safety and smoke-free dining. The goal of Eat Smart! is to contribute to the reduction of chronic diseases (such as heart disease and cancer) and food-borne illnesses in Ontario.  

Grey Bruce restaurants recognized for the Eat Smart! awards are:

Owen Sound - Nathaniel’s, East Side Mario’s, TJ’s Coffee Shop, Ginger Press Bookshop & Cafe, Kelsey’s, Kincaid’s at Days Inn, Montana’s Cookhouse Saloon

Elmwood - Carolyn’s Kitchen  

Miller Lake - Maple Ridge Family Campground

Wiarton - Wiarton Inn

“This is a wonderful way to recognize your hard work and dedication as well as signify to the public that your restaurants are truly excellent places to eat.” said Samara Foisy, Program Coordinator for Eat Smart! Ontario. Eat Smart! is supported by the Nutrition Resource Centre of Ontario and is run by local public health units across Ontario.

Mayors of Owen Sound and Brockton were on hand to honour the achievements of their local restaurants. As partners of this program, representatives from Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation and Grey Bruce Partners in Health also attended.
