News Release For Immediate Release January 4, 2012
Shortest Day of PLAY
More than 9,000 PLAY hours were officially logged during the Shortest Day of PLAY event, December 21.
Eleven municipalities actively participated in the inaugural challenge encouraging Grey Bruce residents to get more active. The top three municipalities accumulating the highest number of PLAY hours were West Grey with 3,916 hours, Arran-Elderslie with 1,429 hours and South Bruce with 1,191 hours. The top three finishers receive unique trophies to display in their municipality.
“We were really excited by the response.” said Jason Weppler, Health Promoter at the Grey Bruce Health Unit. “The Longest Day of PLAY set the stage in June and this event continues to build that momentum. We are optimistic these will become annual events in Grey Bruce, and beyond, for many years to come.” Six municipalities took honours in 2011 with Huron-Kinloss, Hanover and Southgate finishing on top of the podium in June. Presentation of awards for the three winning municipalities from the Shortest Day of PLAY will occur later this month. Full results are available at www.playbrucegrey.com -30-
