Media Advisory For Immediate Release June 7, 2004
Active Playgrounds workshop with Pat Doyle
The media is invited to attend the launching of Active Playgrounds. This is a program designed for school-age children by the Canadian Intramural Association of Ontario and has been made possible through funding from the Trillium Foundation of Ontario. It helps improve children’s fundamental movement and manipulative skills, improves their social and moral behaviour, and gives them positive alternatives for a healthier lifestyle. It also helps reduce aggressive behaviour on the playground. All games are child friendly, easy to play, co-educational and emphasize participation over competition.
The workshop will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, at the community centre in Chesley, 129 4th Avenue S.E. The guest speaker is Pat Doyle, instructor and retired teacher from Kitchener who was featured in the Toronto Star on April 16, 2004, In Game Boy age, hopscotch a revelation. To date, there are 60 registered attendants from schools in both school boards, as well as area recreation departments and Public Health. A light lunch will be provided and door prizes will be awarded. -30-
