F.A.S.D. Support Groups Expand In Grey Bruce A new support group is forming in Grey Bruce for individuals and families affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Psychologist Dr. Karen Baker, with the assistance of Family Support & Behaviour Consultant Andy Swan, will lead a new FASD support group in Walkerton.
The first session takes place October 19 at the office of Regional Support Associates, 911 Young Street, Walkerton from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The groups will meet regularly on the last Thursday of every month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the same location.
All parents, including foster parents, adoptive parents, grandparents and guardians are welcome to attend as well as individuals affected by FASD and interested members of the public. Participants are encouraged to bring questions, concerns and their experiences to share with the group.
A support group for parents continues in Owen Sound at the M'Wikwedong Native Cultural Resource Centre, 1723 8th Avenue East, also on the last Thursday of every month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Once the Walkerton group is established, video conferencing may link the groups so that all members are able to access the expertise of the professionals involved.
