News Release For Immediate Release July 05, 2007 E Coli at Hanover Day Away Program The public is not considered at risk following an outbreak of E coli 0157 at a Day Away program at the Hanover and District Hospital. The outbreak was contained to a single incident and there is no evidence of secondary spread of the infection. There are eight laboratory confirmed cases with four people hospitalized. The symptoms first appeared June 26, 2007. There have been no new cases since July 1, 2007. Grey Bruce Health Unit is working to identify the source of the outbreak. There were 32 people including staff, volunteers and participants attending the Day Away program June 22, 2007. All have been contacted and advised to monitor their health. The Day Away program at the Hanover and District Hospital, managed by Home and Community Support Services, remains closed pending the outcome of the Public Health investigation. -30- For more information: |
