H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Vaccine Still Available in Grey and Bruce

The Grey Bruce Health Unit has completed H1N1 and Seasonal Flu community immunization clinics in the area. To ensure protection for the community into 2010, the H1N1 flu vaccine and Seasonal Flu vaccine are now available to everyone 6 months of age and older, by appointment, through the Grey Bruce Health Unit in Owen Sound, Walkerton and at the Plex in Port Elgin. To book an appointment, call 519-376-9420, 519-881-1920 or 1-800-263-3456 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Both H1N1 and Seasonal Flu vaccine are also now available through many physicians, nurse practitioners and some workplaces.

Public Health provided a record twenty-four H1N1 and Seasonal Flu vaccine clinics across Grey Bruce. One additional clinic, Dec 10, in Chesley was cancelled due to inclement weather. At those clinics, Public Health Nurses administered 10,656 doses of H1N1 vaccine as well as 4,774 doses of Seasonal Flu vaccine. Additionally, Public Health distributed 45,280 doses of H1N1 vaccine and 42,870 doses of Seasonal Flu vaccine to physicians, nurse practitioners, hospitals and selected workplaces.

The staff at the Grey Bruce Health Unit would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Canadian Red Cross, the Alzheimer Society Grey Bruce and student volunteers for their work in keeping the clinics running smoothly and efficiently and for their dedication in sustaining a healthy community.
