Injury Prevention Program

Program Overview

The goal of the injury prevention program is to reduce the frequency, severity and impact of preventable injury and of substance misuse across the life span.  We work to reduce the incidence and severity of injuries and injury related hospitalizations, disabilities and death as well as injuries related to substance misuse.

Injury is the leading cause of death for people under 44 years of age.  In Grey and Bruce counties, injuries are the fourth leading cause of death.  Ninety percent of these injuries are preventable and predictable.  The Health Unit implements a number of initiatives to reduce these numbers, through programs including the prevention falls in older adults, car seat clinics and inspections, general prevention education through home visits, community presentations, awareness campaigns and other training.
