Creating Smoke-free Outdoor Spaces for Our Community

Parks, playgrounds and recreation areas are common places for everyone in a community to access and enjoy. They are important spaces for children to visit, play and explore.

These places belong to everyone and everyone has the right to enjoy their community. Parks, playgrounds and recreation areas generally have rules and restrictions to make sure they are healthy and safe places.

Outdoor smoke-free environments are now common in communities across Ontario, including Ottawa, Collingwood, Hamilton, Woodstock, Sault Ste. Marie, and the Municipality of South Bruce.

Most smokers and non-smokers agree, smoking and children do not mix – and it makes sense to have policies that can protect children from being exposed to tobacco smoke, cigarette butts and negative role modelling.
