Grey Bruce Public Health is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the owners of dogs involved in two unrelated dog-bite incidents – one that took place Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in Owen Sound, and another that took place Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in the Town of Hanover.
The Owen Sound incident took place between 11:30 and 11:45 a.m. near the duck pond at Harrison Park. A mother and her son were walking in the area when they crossed paths with a woman walking two dogs. One of them was bitten after the woman lost control of the dogs.
Both of the dogs were medium-sized and wearing collars and leashes. One of the dogs was a mixed retriever breed with blonde colouring, while the other was an unknown breed with brindle colouring.
The Hanover incident, meanwhile, took place at about 7:30 p.m. on June 24 outside of an apartment building at 160 11th Ave. in Hanover. An individual was bitten by a large black Bull Mastiff-type dog, which was not with its owner at the time of the incident. However, the victim believes the owner lives nearby.
Staff at Grey Bruce Public Health need to confirm the dogs involved in these biting incidents are not infectious with rabies.
By verifying the health of the dogs, the victims can avoid receiving the post-exposure rabies treatment.
Anyone with information related to the Hanover incident is asked to contact Public Health Inspector Katelynne Moors at 519-376-9420 ext. 1334 or k.moors@publichealthgreybruce.on.ca.
