Infectious Diseases

 

The goal of the Infectious Diseases program is to prevent or reduce the burden of infectious diseases of public health importance through:

  • public education and awareness about infectious diseases, and infection prevention, and control practices
  • surveillance and early detection of cases and outbreaks of infectious diseases
  • investigation and control of infectious diseases in institutions and the community (sporadic cases and outbreaks)
  • providing infection and outbreak control advice to institutions and other professionals
  • supporting  clients, health practitioners and the community
  • inspection of facilities, such as: child care centres, long-term care homes, retirement homes, personal services settings (e.g. aesthetics, hair, tattoo, etc) 
  • increasing awareness (public and community partners) of infection prevention and control practices
