The newly appointed Board of Health for Grey Bruce Public Health has selected Kenneth Craig as Chair of the Board of Health.

Shirley Keaveney has been acclaimed as the Board’s Vice-Chair.

Both Kenneth Craig, a Bruce County representative on the Board of Health, and Shirley Keaveney, a Grey County representative, will serve as Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively, for the remainder of 2026.

The Board selected its new Chair and Vice-Chair during a special meeting on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Grey Bruce Public Health.

The Board meeting took place after Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore rescinded a directive under section 77.1 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, which formally returns decision-making authority back to the Grey-Bruce Board of Health.

The Chief Medical Officer of Health temporarily assumed the powers of the Grey-Bruce Board of Health, utilizing the section 77.1 order, in August 2025 to ensure essential public health services continued, while concerns about the Board’s ability to govern were addressed.

“Today, we marked a significant milestone at Grey Bruce Public Health with the return to a governance model led by a locally appointed Board of Health. I look forward to working with my fellow Board of Health members and the leadership at Grey Bruce Public Health as we set priorities, begin work on new governance and finance committees, and continue to champion Public Health’s mission of protecting and promoting the health and well-being of everyone in Grey and Bruce counties,” Craig says.
