Grey Bruce Public Health has been notified that a blue-green algae bloom in a southern portion of Lake Eugenia in Grey Highlands has tested positive for the presence of naturally occurring toxins, known as microcystins, that can make people and pets sick.

Due to the significant amount of rain that has fallen in Grey-Bruce in recent days, Grey Bruce Public Health is reminding residents and visitors that swimming at area beaches within 48 hours of heavy rain or while the water remains unusually cloudy can pose a risk to human health.

Grey Bruce Public Health is requesting the public’s help in identifying the owner of a dog involved in a biting incident that took place on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, in West Grey.

Grey Bruce Public Health has been notified of another suspected fatal opioid poisoning in the area – the fifth since the start of summer – that again highlights the increasing toxicity of the local unregulated drug supply and importance of following harm reduction strategies.

Grey Bruce Public Health has issued an Opioid Alert to community partners after receiving notification of two fatal and two non-fatal suspected drug poisonings  in the region over the past seven days.
